Mocha Club

I recently read a quote from Bono that said, “this is not a cause, this is an emergency.”

This was of course in response to his intensive work to help save the people of Africa. What a profound concept. As a believer in Jesus Christ I am called to help the widowed, the orphaned, the poor, the ill, the broken, and the devastated. It is not a cause, it is an emergency. Why? Because if I am not a part of what God has commissioned each one of us to do, then who will be a part of it? If I am not willing to be used, then who will He use? If I cannot give my money, my time, and my heart to those who most desperately need it, where will the help come from?

I am overwhelmed at the suffering and tragedy that is occurring in Africa. From the rampant AIDS epidemic, malaria, the nearly 25 million orphans, and the lack of clean water, education, and housing, the problems seem limitless. Still, in the midst of such darkness and suffering, there is HOPE.

Mocha Club is one of the many incredible organizations bringing hope to a hopeless generation of Africans and we are so excited to partner with them on this journey of healing and restoration. We would love for you to join alongside Addison Road as we get to know the women and children who reside at the Village of Hope in Uganda. Our goal as a band is to pour our hearts, time, and money into this beautiful community of women who have the chance to start over again. From the smallest things like clothes, school supplies, and basic medicine to larger needs like housing, safety, education, and healthcare; the Village of Hope provides everything these Child Mothers need to succeed in life while nurturing them in a loving, Christ-like community.

Ryan and I have a new saying, “something is better than nothing.” That’s what I think about when I wrestle with the issues of poverty. It is so big and overwhelming that I could simply do nothing. But the truth is I can take small steps, only $7 a month and I can be a part of changing a village, and that is incredibly exciting to me. We can all do something, large or small…something is better than nothing!

Join us. Mocha Club, Addison Road, the Village of Hope, and you…your heart will never be the same and these women and children will never be the same either.

Love,
Jenny Simmons

Urgent Prayer Request

Hey guys. Many of you know that we support a ministry called Mocha Club. In fact, many of you have joined our project within Mocha Club called the Village of Hope. All of you who sign up for Mocha Club under Addison Road have been supporting the Village of Hope project. It is a safe-haven for single mothers and their children to get education, medical care, and other basic needs.

Today we received an email from Mocha Club letting us know about some scary news with the Village of Hope. Please take some time to read the following letter and pray for the safety of the people living in the Village of Hope.

The “school” being refereed to in the letter below is in fact the Village of Hope.

Dear Family and Friends, WE HAVE A VERY URGENT NEED FOR PRAYER!!!

It is with a heavy heart we write of our urgent prayer need. We truly appreciate and covet your immediate prayer support. There was an anonymous letter received at ACTION office while Jerry was gone for the Grassroots Leadership Training on the border of the Congo. The contents of the letter stated very clearly that (quoted in part), “I am glad to inform you that we are going to burn down your school.” ACTION Gulu’s school is called Jesus, The Good Shepherd Primary and Nursery School. It also clearly stated that four of the staff would be killed if we did not return to America and if David (Lilly’s new husband), our School Supervisor, was not dismissed. The four were Candis, Lilly, David and our Nursery Head teacher, Jackie.

This letter was taken to the Police who in-turn took this as an urgent and serious matter and engaged in police protection and started an immediate an investigation. We closed the school promptly in protection of the 148 children in the Primary School. (The Nursery school is already out for their holidays).

There are suspects and they are now under investigation. Other Gov. offices were alerted. Though all shaken, we know who our true protector and deliverer of such evil is…. the Lord Jesus Christ!

WHAT TO PRAY:
1. Pray for God’s protection. Pray for Him to send His ministering angels as He did for Daniel in the lion’s den and shut their mouths. (Daniel 3:28)
2. Pray against our “real” enemy who is satan. (Ephesians 6:12)
3. Pray those trying to carry out this threat, that they would be apprehended and in the course of time come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior. (John 3:16)
4. Pray as we work with the effects of traumatized people that have endured a long horrific war of 23 years, that God would give ACTION staff discernment, love and wisdom. This is some of the effects of such trauma in people.
5. Pray we can see the Victory and that the Lord is lifted up and that for what was meant for evil God turns for His good. (Genesis 50:20 & Romans 8:28)

Start a new conversation. Get it off your chest and into the hearts of others. Raise awareness of the joy and hope that exist in Africa, and begin to reform the inaccurate perception that Africa is a continent only of despair. Are you in? Purchase the shirt for yourself or a friend for $20 – or, get it for free when you join Mocha Club for $7 a month. And YOU get to choose the project it supports.
