Addison Road

back_to_the_futureTomorrow we leave on tour for a month with MercyMe and others on the Rock & Worship Roadshow. We are all really excited and can’t wait to play for all those people. But when you’re leaving on a long trip you have to get your things in line. We won’t have much room for bags so you really have to pick and choose what you want to bring with you on a trip like this.

Let’s see . . . toothbrush, blue shoes, cargo shorts – these are all essentials but what I absolutely won’t forget on any band trip is my favorite movie of all time, ‘Back to the Future‘.

It might surprise you to know that we watch ‘Back to the Future‘ several times a year, if things are really crazy we’ll watch it once a month. See when life gets crazy and hectic on the road sometimes you need an escape. Sometimes escaping isn’t possible when you’re in a van for fifteen hours – but pop in this little gem and suddenly you’re whisked away back to 1955 and everything seems to be a little better.

The scene when Marty McFly first walks into the downtown square in 1955 and the song “Mr. Sandman” is playing is one of my favorite scenes from any movie. You can’t quite explain it but something just feels so good when you see it.

As much as I’m looking forward to the tour there will be points when it will be hard, it’s tough to be away from wives and family and friends. So if you happen to come to one of the shows and you see some of us crowded around a computer watching a flying Delorean, know that it might have been a hard day . . . but we’re gonna be ok.

  1. My movies like that are “Singin’ In the Rain” or “White Christmas” (any time of year:) I am hoping this tour is amazing for you guys in every way! I’ll be there in the chat room watching the show every night, and there live on April 17th.

  2. we can’t wait to see you guys when y’all are back in Dallas!! Safe travels and I LOVE that movie!

  3. I hear that. I’m a Goonies fan myself. With one of my favorite parts being when Sloth stays behind to keep those rocks from falling on the kids and/or blocking the way out…and when he says stuff like “Rocky Road” and “Baby Ruth” and “Ma, you’ve been bad” and of course “Hey you guys!!!!!”

Actually, the whole movie is pretty incredible

  4. Excited for this tour, and praying for Jenny and her pregnancy!

Let’s see if we can’t get this thing up to 88 miles per hour!

Mine is “A Wonderful Life”. When you really get down, just look back at all the good things you’ve been blessed with to this point, and you WILL realize that you’ve had a wonderful life. Now when I look back, I can remember that day in June of 2005 at Austin Peay University when God put Addison Road in my life and the change in me He made through you guys. Never forget the impact you’re having on peoples’ lives and the difference you’re making for the kingdom. I know I don’t. Penny and I sure wish you were coming to North Carolina, but we’re hoping to see you later in the year. Have a great tour!!
